01 · At the venue

General housekeeping

• The defibrillator is located at race control.
• Toilets are located at the front of the building by the blue double doors, and along the corridor on the other side of the arena.
• Smoking and vaping are only permitted outside, across the road from the building.
• Fire exits are located at either end of the building.
• Ask race control or venue staff where the first-aid kit and fire blanket are located.
• Report an injury or fire to race control or venue staff immediately. For an emergency, call 999 and follow venue instructions.

02 · Keep the area safe

Pit area

• LiPo batteries must ALWAYS be charged in a LiPo sack or Bat-Safe box.
• Do not cut tyres directly onto the floor. Use a suitable mat or container and collect the waste.
• Clean up oil spills promptly and report them to race control or venue staff.
• Put all rubbish in the bins provided and leave your pit space tidy.

03 · The schedule

Race day format

• Check your event booking for the day's start and arrival times.
• Club days generally include open practice. SWORD meetings have controlled practice only.
• The day's format is a 3-minute controlled practice session, followed by four qualifying runs with your best two scores counting, then one final for every racer.
• Podium photographs are taken after each race, once marshalling duties are complete.
• Race control will announce the heat order, breaks and any changes to the schedule. Follow the live race order and listen for announcements on the day.

04 · On the rostrum

Driver rules

• Wait behind race control until the previous heat has finished.
• Take one practice lap, then bring your car to the start line as instructed.
• If another car is clearly quicker or is lapping you, let it pass safely.
• Use the rostrum's designated way up and separate way down.
• Call “Car on Straight” clearly when needed.
• Race with respect. Do not swear at other racers.
• When you are called as finished, keep clear of drivers still racing.
• After your race, put your car straight on the designated table, then go out to marshal as instructed.

05 · Helping others race

Marshalling

• Wear a high-visibility vest; do not use a blue or black vest.
• Marshal others as you would like to be marshalled. Stay alert and move safely.
• Do not use a mobile phone within the track area while marshalling.
• Avoid conversations with other marshals or spectators while on duty.
• Do not eat or drink while marshalling.
• A substitute marshal must be a BRCA member; confirm any substitution with race control.
